Pen Pals: A media project about meeting people and sharing realities.
In the past year, youth (media) organizations from Germany, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands and Sweden created a network of young people from different European cities. Youngsters with all kind of backgrounds joined their strengths to create a picture of what it’s like to be young in Europe and give their own view on the society they live in.
It all started on Facebook where all participants joined the group to meet and get to know each other by posting ‘digitales’. Digitales are short personal digital stories about; who you are, the neighborhood you’re from, your family, the things you worry about in society and your dreams of the future. Hereby a group of so called Pen Pals was born and cross-border conversations were initiated.
Together with some media coaches the Pen Pals started working together on the video document by using Facebook and Skype. This document would visualize the stories not only to the Pen Pals involved with this project, but also to a larger audience throughout Europe.
The video-document you are about to watch shows these real-life stories from these very special young Europeans and was shot during the exchanges that took place last summer. The filming and editing was done by the technical crew of Pen Pals; young and talented media makers.
The soundtrack of the document is partly a result of an exchange between eight musicians from different countries who gathered for just one weekend last October in a music studio in Amsterdam. That’s where the magic happened. Other tracks were donated by friends of Pen Pals. Young producers who think this project matters and voices of the future throughout Europe should be heard in a more broader scene. We hope you enjoy this first enterprise form which we hope it will grow out to a brushing fire throughout Europe.
